What is SpellBound?SpellBound is a port of the spellchecker code and user interface from the Mozilla Suite's Composer that enables spell checking in web forms such as html textarea / input elements (html input password elements are not checked by SpellBound) and rich text form elements. This allows you to spell check forms (e.g. message board posts, blog entries, wysiwyg, etc.) before submitting them when using your Mozilla Firefox or Mozilla Suite browser.
There are no special system requirements beyond those to run your browser and it has been verified to work with Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, OS/2, and FreeBSD. If you are running an optimized build of Firefox (e.g. any of the builds in the Third Party/Unofficial Builds forum at MozillaZine, etc.) then you should use the same libraries from an optimized Thunderbird build otherwise you may experience problems (see My optimized build isn't listed... will you provide support for it? section in the FAQ for more information). If you are using the builds available from http://www.mozilla.org/ (e.g. http://www.spreadfirefox.com/, http://www.getfirefox.com/, the builds available in the Firefox Builds forum at MozillaZine, ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/, etc.) the standard libraries available from this site are the ones you should use. The libraries are already included with the Mozilla Suite and do not need to be installed.
- Added libraries from the Thunderbird 1.0.6 Release, 1.1a2 Release, and the 20050727 nightly build.
- Removed the third party optimized libraries... it just takes too much of my time to maintain them along with everything else.
- If you have recently installed again, re-installed, upgraded, or
what ever word you prefer to use to describe installing Firefox
again after you already had Firefox installed and SpellBound working
you will need to re-install the spell checking libraries and
dictionaries. Also, be sure you have
a dictionary selected when you perform the spell check as it
states in the FAQ under When
I perform a spell check no misspelled words are found even though
there are misspelled words... what should I do?
This applies to everyone that has upgraded or re-installed including upgrading to or re-installing any version of Firefox, etc. and please note that SpellBound does work with the Firefox 1.0.4 release.
- Updated the spell check libraries to the Thunderbird 1.0.2 Release version for FreeBSD, Linux, Mac OS X, OS/2, and Windows. These are as far as I know the same as the Thunderbird 1.0 Release libraries.
